In a touching act of community generosity, Donate AED has gifted an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Prince William Girls Fast Pitch Softball League. This meaningful donation is spearheaded by Carter George, the founder of Donate AED, whose sister actively plays in the league.
Carter's Story
Carter George, a student at Osbourn Park High School, established Donate AED in February 2021. His inspiration stemmed from his father, a CPR instructor with over two decades of experience, who routinely checked AEDs in public spaces. Carter identified a concerning issue: many youth sporting venues were without these lifesaving devices. Further investigation revealed that numerous sports programs lacked the financial resources to acquire AEDs. Determined to address this critical shortfall, Carter launched Donate AED with backing from several local sponsors.
Since its founding, Donate AED has been dedicated to raising awareness and funds to equip areas in need with AEDs. Even as Carter prepares to attend Virginia Tech in the fall of 2024, his commitment to the mission of Donate AED in Northern Virginia remains unwavering.
Donate AED’s Mission
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death among young athletes, claiming the lives of about 2,000 children each year. The availability of an AED on-site can significantly increase the likelihood of survival, potentially doubling it. Donate AED aims to fund and install four AEDs annually, with each device costing approximately $1,500.
Serving Northern Virginia
Donate AED focuses on the Northern Virginia area, ensuring that youth sports programs have access to these essential devices. The organization offers several initiatives to help both non-profit and for-profit entities secure AEDs.
AED Donation Program
Non-profits dedicated to youth sports can apply to receive a free AED.
AED Grant Program
For-profit programs that serve youth athletics can request a grant of up to $1,000 towards the purchase of an AED.
AED Purchase Program
For-profit businesses looking to purchase an AED can do so through Donate AED, with all proceeds supporting the non-profit's mission.
